Kiting with Jesus & Mongo, for the Love of Adrenaline…
Along my constant quest for kiting partners, I managed to meet two interesting characters nick-named Jesus (or so I call him) and Mongo. Jesus is one of the coolest older dudes I’ve ever met. I won’t say his age so I don’t ruin his endless opportunities of picking up gorgeous young single women. When your “that” age, have a 6 pack and kite like a m*th*r f**k*r your bound to have your pick of the litter and I don’t want to ruin that for him.
Mongo and I met on a Tuesday night at Pau Hana, the local hawaiian beach bar. Tuesday nights are when all the local ex-pats go out. Kenny the owner who is an authentic hawaiian puts on an open mike night. The best thing about open mike night is every week there is a new “crop” of tourists intown and you just never know what special talented people are in the crowd. In the 6 months i’ve been here i’ve seen some really amazing performers. There is something special when you

have the opportunity to see an artist relaxed, on holidays and preforming because want to. You get to see a genuine rawness in the person and it’s very cool. Anyway, my ghetto fabulous friend Maya introduced Mongo to me in Pau Hana when he tried to pick her up by saying he was a kitesurfer. She took one look at him and said “my friend you are talking to the wrong person, you need to meet my friend Jess”. She grabbed him by the arm, pushed him into me and said “he kites, you kite. Talk” and that was it. We made plans to hook up and ride next time he was up from Costa Rica. One week later he came up with his friend Rick aka Jesus and we all went to Cardenas to ride. Pioneering a sport in a country is great and all but it sure is nice to have people to ride with. It’s motivating as opposed to always teaching lessons where you ride a little in between or on your own for an audience who doesn’t even know what you are doing anyway.
I came up with the name Jesus for Rick when I told him about my slider park I want to build but was having trouble finding people to help me build it. He then spilled the beans on him being a carpenter and I just couldn’t resist. I’m looking forward to filming him build my slider park in a robe and if i’m convincing enough he will grow out his hair long. (It’s worth a try!)
After spending a couple days hanging with the boys I remembered why i’m addicted to this sport. I love the adrenaline, the teamwork yet the solidarity on the water and most of all I kinda dig being the hot chick with the boys. Yes, i’ll admit it. I mean who wouldn’t?
